Dr Smith in my opinion is totally awesome, when I first met him, I had already completed my psych eval, and at our first appt, I completed the nutrionist appt. On my second appt I took my support team in to meet with him. He has been the same from day one, always ready to answer any of my questions. I am 2 months post op and I look forward to every visit with him. His Office staff is the same way always ready to help, and up to the day I had surgery, I had plenty of questions and concerns and they helped me through all of them. If you want a great doctor I recommend Dr Smith and his staff. Attend the seminar and support group meetings that are held once a month, I'm still learning, but I'm also winning at the weight loss game thanks to Dr Smith.

He is straightforward, he is a very good surgeon.

They encourage you to follow a healthy diet & exercise to maintain and keep optimal results.
They at this time to my knowledge have a structured aftercare program.
Dr. Smith told me all the risk of surgery.
Dr. Smith is an excellent surgeon.
I would say Dr. Smith does lack in bedside manner, BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE AN EXCELLENT SURGEON THAN HAVE SOMEONE WITH EXCELLENT BEDSIDE MANNER & MINIMAL SURGICAL SKILLS.

At first I was apprehensive of Dr. Smith. He seemed quite reserved. AS time has gone on, I feel realize that is her persona. It does not stop him from sharing my excitement as I continue doing well. His staff is awesome. Any time I call with questions or concerns that help me right away. When I was sick they took care of my issues immediately.

Personal Comments:
I was approved for this surgery 3 years ago and got scared and didn't go through with it. I knew I had to try one more time trying myself. I tried weight watchers and lost 70 pounds, I have gained it back again and now I know this is the last straw for me. I do not take surgery lightly, however, I am really looking forward to this.

I have nothing but praise for the way my surgery was handled right from the beginning. Dr. Smith was very professional yet caring and has taken the time to help me with any questions I have had. He has encouraged me to be strong and be healthy. My surgery went exceptionally well with very few problems of any kind. The only problem I have had is dealing with the insurance for the yearly blood test for follow up visits and getting all of the test covered due to insurance codes and rules. But that is minor for the change I have had in my life.

My first impression of Dr. Smith was good. He seemed nice and knowlegdeable. His office staff was wonderful. He seemed to genuinely care about his patients.
He explained the certain risks including death that are associated with gastric bypass.
I was overall very happy with Dr. Smith. He did seem a bit rough around the edges. This was not a turn off but might be to someone who wants a very "loving nurturing" surgeon.

I HAVE MET WITH HIM ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASSIONS AND HE IS VERY NICE. AT THE FIRST MEETING I WAS REALLY NERVOUS, THE SECOND MEETING WE WERE WAITING FOR INSURANCE APPROVAL AND I JUST HAD TO CHECK BACK IN. THE LAST TIME WE JOKED HOW LONG IT HAS TAKEN FOR MY INSURANCE TO APPROVE MY SURGERY.

6/14/06 Well, I celebrated my one year surgiversary this week. I'm a bit frustrated because I'm only down 98 pounds - but my surgeon said that it just takes some people longer to get down where they want to be. But - the consolation is that my body is still getting smaller even if the scale is stuck. I even felt so good about myself that I went and tried on halter tops at Old Navy. It made me feel so good that I bought one! I haven't worn any kind of halter since I was 19 or 20 - I'm thrilled.
A lot of my personal stressors are easing up now - my final divorce hearing is 9 days away. WOO HOO!

I am having major PMS munchies! I want to eat everything I see. I even ate chips and dip without dumping yesterday! This is not good!!!
My weight has even gone up 7 pounds because of bloating - but I'm urinating constantly so it'll be off by tomorrow.

Dr Smith is a very kind and compassionate man. When I went in for my one year checkup and I had only lost 98 pounds he helped me not to get discouraged. He said that the pounds will come off as long as I keep doing what I am supposed to. He also took out my gall bladder 11 months following my RNY surgery.

I fought the up and down battle with weight since my pre-teens. I topped out at 306 pounds. My job requires much airline travel and I could barley fit into coach seats, not that they are roomy in any streatch of the imagination, but still. I was constantly embarased about getting winded by simply walking up a flight of stairs. My wife being a CCRN started noticing danger signs and we decided to visit Dr. Smith a.k.a. "GOD". Dr. Smith interviewed, discussed, and informed me of the risks. He suggested alternatives, but I was persistant. I finally got the surgery scheduled only to start the insurance fight. They denied me 3 times. They had me reduced to a sniveling cry baby given up all hope. It felt like I would loose my mind at times. After many heated battles, they approved my request. Dr. Smith and Lisa Sironen did the rest. I owe them my health and thank them from the bottom of my heart, which by the way is workling much better now. 03/15/04 * I am meeting with my surgeon for the first time in one hour! I have reviewed his preliminary video and literature and feel I am doing the right thing. I am excited, I am nervous, I am praying ... OFTEN! Please pray for me and God bless all of you.
03/16/04 * My husband met me at the surgeon's office yesterday and we spoke with Dr. Smith first for a long while, then with the nurse. Both were very open, approachable, supportive, and informative. My mind is spinning but I truly believe I am on my way! I have already began talking with my new PCP's office about what I will need from them. My old PCP, God love him, said he could not morally and ethically support me through this surgery. And the dance begins. My BMI is 51 and I am 5'2", you do the math.
