About Benefits

The benefits of having this surgery must be examined in comparison to the risks associated with any major abdominal or gastric surgery. Since you are interested enough to do the research, here's what we already know.

We'll help you explore what might be changed in your life if you take the journey, but it will be you and your loved ones who determine whether the journey must be taken. You'll come to us with things you want to change, things you want to forget, and things you want to leave behind. Your journey will allow the development of a tool to help you lose weight, but is not the "magic fix" designed to cure all things. Your benefits will be real and successful only as long as you understand what is necessary for that success. We'll help you learn.

Many of the diseases associated with morbid obesity are caused or worsened by the excess weight itself. These are called "co-morbidities" and are very personal. If you have them, they undoubtedly affect the quality of your life. These diseases include, but are certainly not limited to:

We're not sure which of these might affect your life the most, or which might possibly be improved by having this surgery. That's a decision you can only make from the other side. We think the potential benefits will be many and lifelong, but you have to look to yourself for those answers. Being able to live your life is probably as important a benefit as any we've heard from our patients. We're hoping your success as you take the journey will improve aspects of your life as yet unrecognized.
